The Perfect Pair: Two Auberge Properties, One Unforgettable Cabo Experience

The Hello Team had the honor of experiencing two amazing Los Cabos Auberge Resorts: Esperanza and Chileno Bay. Each resort has its own personality, design language, and roster of experiences, yet together they form a complete picture of what luxury on the Baja Peninsula can be. Each resort delivers thoughtful design, serious culinary craft, best-in-class spa programs, and outdoor programming that leans into the dramatic meeting of desert and sea. We were on site during Hurricane Lorena, and even with the storm, both resorts handled logistics and hospitality so well that our time felt safe, seamless, and luxe from start to finish. Below is a deep dive on each property with details on the experiences we loved.

ESPERANZA - The Private-Beach Sanctuary

Esperanza is positioned on Punta Ballena, a rocky stretch of coastline known for its whale-tail silhouette and dramatic surf. The property feels like a private enclave: architecture and gardens are thoughtfully sited to emphasize ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and intimate outdoor moments. Rooms range from standalone haciendas and oceanfront casonas to private villas, which gives the property a family-friendly yet exclusive feel. Esperanza is often described as the only resort with a truly private beach in Los Cabos, and you notice that privacy in how the public spaces are scaled and sited.

Who it is for:
Esperanza suits travelers who want both comfort and ceremony. Bring this property a couple seeking romantic oceanfront dinners, a multi-generation family who needs villas and kids programming, or a wellness-minded traveler who wants to disconnect without sacrificing service. The resort balances family programming and adult-focused spaces so it works equally well for family trips and quiet retreats.

Food and Dining

Esperanza has a strong culinary lineup. Cocina del Mar is the marquee dining room: set on a rocky promontory, dramatic ocean views, waves below, fresh Baja-seafood flavors elevated with precision and creativity. The Hello Team had hoped to do a private dinner here, but unfortunately our reservation at Cocina del Mar couldn’t happen because of Hurricane Lorena. While we missed that special evening under candlelight with surf crashing beneath, the vision, the menu, and everything we saw from other guests confirmed we absolutely cannot wait to return to experience it in full.

The resort offers alternative dining venues and more casual-to-elegant options that kept us well fed and inspired despite the weather. These include lighter lunch-fare by the beach, relaxed terraces, and family-friendly options around the property.

Spa and wellness — Medicine Wheel Journeys

The Spa at Esperanza is intentionally designed as a desert oasis. The reimagined program centers on the Medicine Wheel, a framework that ties treatments to the elements: air, earth, water, and fire, and to the idea that well-being is holistic. The spa campus includes steam rooms, hot and cold plunges, an apothecary blending bar, outdoor showers, a yoga studio, and multiple treatment rooms and relaxation spaces.

Activities

Esperanza programs its landscape and coastline into a range of active and introspective options: whale watching in season, chef-led sea-foraging walks, horseback riding on the sand, racquet sports, beach games for families, and curated culinary experiences like private chef tables or cooking with the resort’s culinary team. The property’s layout supports both energetic days (horseback, snorkel trips) and slow days by the adult pool or private beach.

Due to Hurricane Lorena, our plans shifted—but in the best way. Instead of venturing out, we used our private villa as a home base for a pampered girls’ day. The villa’s spacious layout made it easy to settle in together. We ordered snacks, queued up movies, rounds of mahjong and scheduled in-villa spa treatments. It was the kind of unplanned day that ended up being a highlight: a reminder that this resort can deliver comfort, wellness, and connection even when the weather keeps you inside.

Esperanza is where Cabo slows down. Its private beach, cliffside dining, and deeply intentional spa experiences make it a sanctuary for travelers who crave both connection and calm. Even when the hurricane shifted our plans, the resort gave us everything we needed for a luxurious reset—our villa became a haven for laughter, relaxation, and wellness. Esperanza proves that true five-star hospitality is about more than setting; it’s about creating space for moments that linger long after you leave.

CHILENO BAYContemporary Coastal Comfort

Chileno Bay sits on a protected cove that is known for swimmable water and vibrant coral reefs. The architecture is modern and airy, built to blur indoor and outdoor living with broad terraces, low-slung lines, and lots of direct access to sand and sea. Where Esperanza’s aesthetic leans more traditional-Mexican-meets-cliffside-privacy, Chileno Bay reads contemporary Baja: minimal, sunlit, and oriented around the beach and reef. The bay itself is one of Cabo’s few true swimmable beaches, which makes Chileno Bay a natural choice for snorkelers and families who want gentle water conditions.

Who it is for:
Chileno Bay is ideal for families who want calm swimming, for couples who want modern design and chef-driven dining, and for groups who need villa- or multi-bedroom layouts with contemporary service and amenities. The property’s villa inventory and multi-bedroom options also make it an attractive choice for groups traveling together.

Pools and Beach Life

Chileno Bay’s signature infinity pool is a social, visual centerpiece. The resort emphasizes a layered pool program that accommodates families, quieter adult zones, and cabanas for private lounging. The pool flows into the beach and reef area where you can snorkel straight off the sand. We spent a long afternoon rotating between the infinity pool and our private cabana. The pool staff and cabana service are there to keep you happy, which makes long poolside days comfortable and easy.

Spa — Sol, The Spa at Chileno Bay

Sol is built as a modern wellbeing facility that mixes scientific treatments with ancient Baja healing practices. The menu is broad: signature Method treatments that include advanced modalities like laser therapy in tandem with manual lymphatic techniques, jade gua sha offerings, and immersive experiences guided by healers that combine energy work, sea-salt and herb scrubs, full-body wraps, and chakra-balancing massage. The spa courtyard, cold plunges, steam spaces, and Bath House are all designed for ritualized sequencing: a cold plunge, a sauna, then treatment and restful integration. Our team experienced an immersive healing ritual that included a cleansing sea-salt scrub and a guided energy session; the flow created a clear before-and-after sensation that felt restorative and targeted.

Culinary Magic

Chileno Bay’s dining program is contemporary and approachable, with an emphasis on Mediterranean and Latin influences. YAYA is the resort’s culinary studio and social kitchen, where guests can join hands-on classes. Beyond YAYA, Chileno Bay offers multi-course chef-led dinners and opportunities to bring dining into villas for private, elevated meals.

Our team had the chance to dive even deeper into Chileno’s culinary magic with a private Mexican Cooking Class + Lunch in one of their signature Villas. Guided by the chefs of Comal, we learned age-old techniques for crafting silky guacamole, tangy salsa, tostadas, and tacos—each bite a reflection of heritage and tradition. It was an interactive, delicious way to connect with Mexico’s rich culinary culture.

For a more private night, we experienced a villa dinner with a personal chef. The menu was curated to our tastes, plated to be shareable, and served on our terrace under the stars. The villa service model makes an evening like this feel entirely private: courses paced for conversation, wine pairings chosen by the chef sommelier team, and a staff that handled logistics and cleared seamlessly. If you are a group who loves to linger, this is where Chileno Bay’s villa program shines.

Activities Around the Bay

Chileno Bay’s protected cove supports easy snorkeling to coral gardens that are accessible without long boat rides. The resort organizes guided snorkels, private catamaran sails, SUP sessions, and curated land activities such as private golf and local cultural journeys. The villa program also includes the possibility to add curated experiences directly to your stay. The property’s activity desk is efficient and can coordinate everything from reef-safe snorkeling gear to private chefs.

To pair the relaxation of the spa enviorment and wellness and restoration aspect of yoga our team participated in the Gong Bath Experience. Surrounded by the soothing resonance of harmonious bowls, we let go of negative beliefs and embraced an unexpected moment of healing and grounding. It was a soulful reminder that travel can restore the mind as much as the body.

Chileno Bay radiates energy and warmth, inviting guests to immerse themselves in both play and presence. From world-class dining and cooking alongside chefs to restorative wellness rituals, it’s a destination that lingers long after you leave.

Experiencing both Esperanza and Chileno Bay back-to-back felt like discovering the perfect pair. Each resort has its own personality—Esperanza with its serene elegance and timeless romance, and Chileno Bay with its vibrant energy and modern flair. Together, they showcase the very best of Los Cabos, offering two distinct yet complementary ways to indulge, connect, and recharge. The Hello team is deeply grateful to have experienced both, and we left with not only unforgettable memories but also a true appreciation for the unique spirit each property brings to the Auberge Resorts Collection.
